The 17th Pucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) had a fantastic opening ceremony on July 18. The first day of the eleven-day event started off with a sizzling red carpet ceremony. Hundreds of eager fans reported they had been waiting since midday to see their favorite stars. There were an especially overwhelming number of young female middle school students.

The first stars to heat up the red carpet were the hosts for the evening: Girls’ Generation member, Soo-young and actor Shin Hyun-jun. Actor Lee Hyun-woo and Japanese actress Fujii Mina, the ambassadors for this year’s PiFan film festival were the next top stars to walk down the red carpet. In addition to top Korean celebrities like veteran actor Ahn Sung-ki, actor Lee Byung-hun and actresses Jun Ji-hyun and Park Shin-hye, several foreign actors and directors also walked down the red carpet.

Following on the heels of the red carpet event was the opening ceremony itself. There was a short award ceremony where actors Lee Byung-hun and Jun Ji-hyun got the Producer’s Choice awards. The true highlight of the evening, however, was the screening of Israeli director Ari Folman’s film, After all, what is a film festival without its films?

제 17회 부천 국제 판타스틱 영화제(PiFan)가 7월 18일 환상적인 개막식을 가졌다. 11일 간의 행사 첫 날은 화려한 레드 카펫 행사로 시작됐다. 수백 명의 열성 팬들은 낮부터 좋아하는 스타들을 보기 위해 기다렸다고 말했다. 특히 어린 여자 중학생들의 수가 압도적으로 많았다.

레드 카펫을 밟은 첫 번째 스타들은 이 날 저녁의 호스트인 소녀 시대 멤버 수영과 배우 신현준이었다. 올해 PiFan 영화제 홍보대사인 배우 이현우와 일본 여배우 후지이 미나가 레드 카펫 위를 걷게 된 다음 스타들이었다.

중견 배우 안성기, 배우 이병헌, 여배우 전지현, 박신혜 등의 한국 톱 스타들을 비롯하여 다수의 해외 배우들과 감독들도 레드 카펫 위를 걸었다.

레드 카펫 행사에 이어 개막식이 진행됐다. 배우 이병헌과 전지현이 짧게 진행된 시상식에서 프로듀서 초이스 상을 수상했다. 이 날 저녁의 진정한 하이라이트는 이스라엘 감독 Ari Folman의 영화 상영이었다. 영화를 빼면 영화제에 무슨 의미가 있을까?
