Children’s day in Korea is celebrated on the fifth day of May which is a national holiday called “Eo-rin-i-nal.” This year, the day marks the 91st Children’s day.

In 1923, Bang Jung-hwan, a children’s literature author and children’s rights activist, created this day to shed light on the dignity of children and their need for support and love. In those days, children were not respected like they are now. However, thanks to Children’s day, people now understand it is their right to be loved and respected.

It is considered to be one of the most favorite days of the year by children because they get to spend time with their family and can go to the amusement park, zoo or their favorite restaurant to celebrate their happiness.

Many parents want to make this day special and make their children as happy as possible. Moreover, it is the day when they get the present they have wanted all year long from their parents or grandparents.

대한민국에서 5월 5일은 어린이날로 기념되고 있다. 어린이날은 법정 공휴일이며, 올해는 어린이날 91주년이다.

1923년 아동문학작가이자 아동 인권 운동가였던 고 방정환이 어린이의 존엄성과 어린이는 사랑 받고 보호받을 필요가 있다는 사실을 조명하기 위해 처음으로 어린이날을 만들었다.

그때 당시에는 어린이들이 지금처럼 대우받지 못했다. 그러나 어린이날 덕분에 사람들은 어린이들이 사랑 받고 대우받아야 한다는 인식을 가지게 됐다.

어린이날은 아이들이 가장 좋아하는 휴일 중 하나이다. 바로 가족들과 함께 어린이날을 기념하기 위해 놀이공원이나 동물원, 좋아하는 음식점에 가기 때문이다.

대부분의 부모들은 이 날을 특별하게 기념하여 아이들을 행복하게 하기 위해 노력한다. 더불어 이 날, 아이들은 부모님이나 할머니, 할아버지로부터 그 동안 가지고 싶었던 선물을 받기도 한다.
