Reality TV shows have truly raised the bar. the third Season of Superstar K definitely satisfied just about every viewer in the nation. The reality competition show to find the next superstar started off with countless artists battling to win 500 million won in cash and a chance to perform at the Mnet Asia Music Awards in Singapore. With so much at stake, every participant was carefully examined and chosen to move to the next rounds.

After months of thrills and tears, the final four were chosen to compete against each other. Regardless of who came in first or second, their music has already been heating up the charts. Mostly remakes of popular music, each artist infused their own styles to bring out a unique twist to the songs. There was no doubt that the show was a success this year once again, and it was certain that new stars were born.

Through a combination of judges’ points, online and mobile votes, the final contestants were graded on their performances. At the final showdown, there were two very talented bands: Busker busker and Ulala Session. The final round aired live at midnight last Saturday. The audiences at home and at Jamsil Gymnasium watched the two bands perform head to head. The two finalists were required to perform one rendition and one track produced specifically for each group by popular producers.

Both Busker busker and Ulala Session faltered in the first part of the final round. Their performances of the renditions were criticized by judge Lee Seung-chul, who maintained a tough evaluation process throughout the competition. Luckily for the finalists, they were able to show all of their talents and passion when they performed the tracks produced for them. They were able to immediately lift the spirits of the judges, who were somewhat disappointed by previous performances. Trembling with excitement and anticipation, the whole nation waited for the announcement of who will be crowned the winner.

The winner of Superstar K3 was Ulala Session. After hearing the announcement, the winning members Lim Yoon-taek, Park Seung-il, Kim Myung-hoon and Park Kwang-sun cried with joy and invited their parents onto stage. The group’s leader, Lim, was in the spotlight during the competition as he was suffering from stomach cancer. He thanked the members for keeping their faith in him during the fierce journey. “We owe this success to everyone who believed in us. Our band is not made of talented individuals but of those who are willing to sacrifice everything for the dream,” Lim said in an interview held shortly after the final round. the band will be prepping for their debut on November 29 in Singapore.
