At the end of every year there are plenty of dazzling awards ceremonies that take place,     featuring many attractive stars of the stage and screen. Watching these ceremonies is an experience you can enjoy at home or at the venue itself, as the year fades out and the New Year glimmers on the horizon. The Teen Times had the honor of attending one of the most renowned and time-honored music awards ceremonies in the nation - the Golden Disk Awards.

Held on December 9 at Korea University’s Hwa Jeong gymnasium in Seoul, the atmosphere was heated despite the subzero temperatures, thanks to the fervor of the ardent teenage fans who came out to cheer on their favorite idol singers. Keep reading to find out what happened and who gained the glory of this year’s Grand Prize!

The Golden Disk Awards is the most prestigious awards ceremony in the Korean music scene, each year celebrating the Korean pop songs most loved by the public. Called the “Grammy Awards of Korea”, it has stood as the most authoritative awards ceremony since 1986. Unlike other similar ceremonies, the Golden Disk Awards uses record sales as its basis for selecting its winners. In addition, digital music sales are also considered when evaluating the awardees, due to the expansion of the Internet within the nation. Recognizing digital music sales is a key advantage as it has validated the Golden Disk Awards as one of the most objective and reliable music awards ceremonies around.

 

The 2010 Golden Disk Awards ceremony was broadcast live through QTV, Y-star and Comedy TV for three hours. Idol groups including the forefront girl group Girls’ Generation and their male counterparts Super Junior and 2AM all appeared on stage and in particular BoA (often described as the star of Asia) made the audience’s jaws drop with her powerful charisma.

Of the 11 categories, a total of 21 awards were waiting to be handed out to the lucky winners. Girls’ Generation and 2AM were each awarded the Grand Prize and the Digital Sound Grand Prize. Yet Girls’ Generation didn’t stop there; they also gained the highest glory by taking possession of the Best Album and Popularity awards, adding up to a total of three prizes. Furthermore, 2AM also won two prizes, being presented with the Best Digital Single Award along with the Grand Prize. The groups Sistar, Beast, and Secret took home the Best New Artist awards while others featured on the nominee list included BoA, IU, Miss A, CNBLUE, Lee Seung-gi, Super Junior, SHINee, Supreme Team, DJ DOC, and FT Island.

Although opinions may differ, the Golden Disk ceremony was surely a show that everyone could enjoy for the whole night. However, despite the ceremony being a great success some doubtful aspects were plain to see; the M.net Asian Music Awards (MAMA) took place in Macau, China on November 28, yet it couldn’t remove the stigma of being only a half ceremony. This is because while most of the winners in MAMA belong to the YG Family, the winners in the Golden Disk Awards hail from SM Entertainment. This plunges the nation’s music critics and fans into confusion; surely singers from SM Entertainment and YG are good enough to deserve awards at each other’s ceremonies?

Nevertheless, all of the artists in both ceremonies spent the past year working hard and deserve to be applauded. We can only hope that the ceremonies will grow more mature and become more unbiased and persuadable next year. After all, we appreciate all of the singers for sparing no efforts in their work to further develop the nation’s music scene. You are doing a fine job; keep up the good work, singers!

영예로운 제 25회 골든 디스크 시상식

연말에 무대와 스크린의 많은 매력적인 스타들이 나오는 눈부신 시상식이 많다. 한 해가 저물어가고 새해가 지평선 위로 깜빡일 때 이러한 시상식들을 보는 것은 집에서 또는 그 현장에서 즐길 수 있는 경험이다, 틴타임즈는 국내에서 가장 유명하고 전통 있는 음악 시상식들 중 하나인 골든디스크에 참석하는 영광을 얻었다. 12월 9일 고려대학교 화정 체육관에서 열린 그 시상식의 분위기는 그들이 가장 좋아하는 아이돌 가수들을 응원하기 위해 나온 열혈 십대 팬들의 열정 덕분에, 영하의 온도에도 불구하고 후끈 달아 올랐다. 무슨 일이 일어났고 올해의 대상이 영광을 누가 차지했는지 알아보기 위해 계속 읽어라!

골든디스크 시상식은 매년 대중에게 가장 사랑 받은 한국 가요를 기념하는 한국 음악계에 가장 명망 있는 시상식이다. “한국의 그래미 어워드’라 불리며, 그것은 1986년 이래 가장 권위 있는 시상식으로 자리 매김하였다. 다른 유사한 시상식과는 달리, 골든 디스크 시상식은 음반 판매량을 기준으로 수상자를 선정한다. 더욱이, 수상자를 평가할 때, 국내의 인터넷 확대로, 디지털 음원 판매 또한 고려된다. 디지털 음반 판매량을 인정하기 때문에 골든 디스크 시상식은 가장 객관적이고 신뢰할 수 있는 음악 시상식 중 하나로 인정받았다.

2010 골든 디스크 시상식은 3시간 동안 QTV, Y-star 그리고 코미디 TV를 통해 생방송되었다. 아이돌 그룹 중에서도 선도적인 소녀시대와 막상막하의 남자 아이돌 그룹 슈퍼주니어 그리고 2AM을 포함한 아이돌 그룹들이 무대에 등장했고 특히 보아(종종 아시아의 별이라 칭하는)는 파워풀한 카리스마로 관객들의 입을 떡 벌어지게 했다.
