The long awaited event is now just around the corner. The 2010 South Africa World Cup is getting the whole world excited, and South Korea is no exception. The nation’s top players have gathered at the National Training Center in Paju in Gyeonggi Province.

The national squad’s boss Huh Jung-moo still hasn’t announced the final 23-men roster. Sports fans and critics believe manager Huh will make the final call after the friendly against Ecuador at Seoul World Cup Stadium on May 16.

It is apparent the game will be the final opportunity for domestic players to prove their mettle. As for the overseas-based players, Huh has announced that he will not be placing a heavy burden on them to add to their already hectic schedules.

Here’s a little preview of the starting lineup. SC Freigburg’s Cha Du-ri, AS Monaco’s Park Chu-young and Celtic’s Ki Sung-yeung have already joined the training camp. It is very likely to see them all in action. Of course Manchester United’s Park Ji-sung, Bolton Wanderers’ Lee Chung-yong, Al Hilal’s Lee Yong-pyo also have guaranteed their spots on the roster.  As for players like Ahn Jung-hwan and Lee Keun-ho, they will be joining the camp in the middle of May.

The biggest concern for the nation’s squad is how to mix up the veterans and youngster to create perfect synergy of offense and defense. Experienced veterans like Lee Dong-gook and Ahn Jung-hwan will have to be placed in the right combination what with the countless choices of fresh additions to the national team.

After concluding the friendly in the nation, the final 23 will travel to Japan on May 22 for another friendly against archrival Japan on May 24. Last minute tune-up matches have been prepared against Belarus on May 30 and Spain on June 3.

South Korea will be playing its first World Cup group match against Greece in Port Elizabeth on June 12 and will play Argentina in Johannesburg on June 17. Korea will face Nigeria for the final group match in Durban on June 22.

While the national squad will be under intensive physical and mental training, the representatives of the nation’s Football Association will be keeping themselves busy at Zurich in Switzerland. South Korea is once again submitting its application for the 2022 World Cup! The bid will be competed amongst four countries. They are the United States, Japan, Qatar and Australia.

한국팀 의 허정무 감독은 여전히 최종 23명의 선수 명단을 발표하지 않았다. 스포츠 팬들과 비평가들은 허정무 감독이 5월 16일 서울 월드컵 경기장에서 에콰도르와의 친선 경기가 치른 후 최종 명단을 발표할 것으로 믿고 있다.

그 경기는 국내 선수들의 패기를 증명할 마지막 기회가 될 것임이 분명하다. 해외파 선수들에 대해서 말해본다면, 허 감독은 이미 빠듯한 일정에 추가하여 선수들에게 큰 부담을 지우지 않을 거라고 발표했다.

여기 출발 선수 명단의 약간의 프리뷰가 있다. SC 프라이부르크의 차두리, AC 모나코의 박주영 그리고 셀틱 FC의 기성용은 이미 훈련 캠프에 참가했다. 그들이 활동하는 모습을 볼 수 있을 것이다. 물론 맨체스터 유나이티드의 박지성, 볼튼 원더러스의 이청용, 알 힐라 FC의 이영표 역시 그 명단에 자리를 명백히 확보했다. 안정환과 이근호와 같은 선수들에 대해 말하자면, 그들은 5월 중순에 참여할 예정이다.

한국팀의 가장 큰 걱정은 베테랑 선수와 젊은 선수들이 공격과 방어의 완벽한 시너지 효과를 만들어 내기 위해 어떻게 뒤섞이느냐에 있다. 이동국과 안정환과 같은 경험 있는 베테랑 선수들이 국내팀에 수많은 선택들과 함께 어떤 신선한 추가가 되어 올바른 조합으로 놓여져야만 할 것이다.

한국의 친선경기가 끝난 후, 최종 23명이 5월 24일에 라이벌과의 다른 친선 경기를 위해 5월 22일 일본으로 갈 예정이다. 최종 예선 경기는 5월 30일에는 벨라루스와 6월 3일은 스페인과 준비되어 있다.

한국은 6월 12일에 포트엘리자베스에서 그리스와의 첫 월드컵 경기를 치르고 6월 17일에 요하네스버그에서 아르헨티나와 경기할 것이다. 한국은 6월 22일에 더반에서 마지막 경기를 치르기 위해 나이지리아와 맞설 것이다.

한국대표 축구팀은 집중적인 신체적 정신적 훈련을 받는 반면, 한국축구협회의 대표들은 스위스의 취리히에서 계속 바쁠 것이다. 한국이 다시 한번 2022년 월드컵을 위한 지원서를 제출하려 한다. 그 입찰은 4개국 간에 경쟁이 될 것이다. 그 국가들은 미국, 일본, 카타르 그리고 호주이다.
