  • Having celebrated their fifth anniversary since their debut, BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, are on their way to becoming even greater global stars. The seven-member boy group started out under a small-scale company named BigHit on June 13th, 2013. They captured the K-pop audience with powerful dancing in their debut song “No More Dream.”
    Through the years, they have produced multiple albums that led to the rise of the group’s popularity in the music industry. Their music videos on Youtube are well over 100 million views, with their most viewed being “DNA” with 440 million. Their fandom, ARMY, is located worldwide, which is one of the reasons why they were able to grow into such a global star. Although they have steadily risen, their peak started in 2017 with the Billboard award.
    On May 21st, 2017, BTS received the Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist, topping famous pop artists like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, with the help from Army which voted for BTS on Twitter and the awards website more than 300 million times. As the first K-pop group to appear on Billboard, this event got huge support and recognition from fans and South Korean citizens. Breaking the record of hitting 10 million and 20 million views in the fastest time, BTS broke new records for their song “DNA,” hitting 21 million views in just 24 hours. Their album “Love Yourself: Her,” which came out on September 18th, 2018, set several records such as debuting at No. 1 for World Albums. The lead single of the album, “DNA,” charted No. 67 in the Billboard Hot 100 Songs, which is the highest record for any K-pop group. They were able to set another record when their album, “Love Yourself: Tear,” charted No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This was the first time for a non-American album to chart as No. 1 since 2006. This record even beat PSY’s famous “Gangnam Style,” which was charted No. 2 on the Billboard 200. As a group that already broke many records both internationally and in Korea, BTS will continue to surprise their fans with their upcoming album on August 24th.

     지난 몇 년 동안, 그들은 여러 앨범을 제작하며 음악 업계에서 그룹의 인기를 높여왔다. 그들의 YouTube 영상들은 매번 1억 건의 조회수를 넘었으며 그중 “DNA“는 4.4억 건의 조회수로 가장 많은 조회수를 얻었다. 그들의 팬 클럽 ARMY는 전세계의 팬들로 구성되어 있어 BTS가 국제적으로 발돋움하는 데 크게 기여했다. BTS는 이렇게 꾸준히 성장해왔지만, 그들의 전성기의 시작은 2017년 Billboard Award를 수상하면서부터였다.
     2017년5월21일, BTS는 Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist를 수상했다. 그들은 ARMY 팬 클럽의 트위터와 수상 웹사이트를 통해 3억표의 투표로 Justin Bieber와 Arianna Grande등 유명한 아티스트를 누르고 수상하였다. BTS는 가장 빠른 시간내 1천만과 2천만 건 조회기록을 깨고 단 24시간 만에 “DNA”에 2100만 건의 조회수 기록을 세웠다. 2018년 9월 18일에 나온 “Love Yourself: Her”도 세계 1등 앨범 등 여러 기록을 세웠다. 앨범의 타이틀 곡인 “DNA”는 Billboard Hot 100 Songs에서 67위를 차지했으며 이는 K-pop 그룹 중 최고 기록이었다. “Love Yourself: Tear” 앨범이 Billboard 200 Chart에서 1위를 차지하며 또 다른 기록을 세웠다. 2006년 이후 처음으로 비미국 앨범이 1위를 차지한 것이었다. 이 기록은 Billboard 에서 2위를 기록한 PSY의 유명한 “강남 스타일”도 능가한것이다. BTS는 이미 전세계와 한국에서 많은 기록들을 갱신한 그룹으로서 8월24일에 곧 출시 될 앨범으로 팬들을 또 놀라게 할 것이다.

    Lucienne Jaeyeon Huh is

    Red Cross Youth, Committee of Young Psychologists, and Helping North Korean
    Refugees (HNKR) Club. She actively participates in school choirs through
