Food scams are nothing new in China but this time, it made news with two scandals in one month alone.

Sixty-three food traders were caught and arrested for buying rat, fox, and mink and selling the meat as lamb. The products were not tested for quality and chemical additives were used to give them the color and taste of lamb.

In less than a month of the rat meat scandal, China stunned the world again with another safety scare. Reports have been made of tainted rice. Also dubbed as “Cadmium rice,” China’s rice crop has been found to contain high levels of dangerous heavy metals including cadmium. Heavy metals are known to affect internal organs and cause cancer.

Ceaseless food scandals in China call for strengthened food safety regulations within the nation.

중국의 먹거리 사기 논란은 끊임없이 일어나지만 이번에는 한달 안에 무려 두건이나 일어났다.

중국 내 63명의 식품 상인들이 쥐, 여우, 밍크를 양고기로 둔갑시켜 판매한 혐의로 체포되었다. 그들이 판매한 고기는 품질 테스트를 받지 않았으며 양의 색과 맛을 띄게 하기 위해 화학 첨가물을 이용했다.

양고기 논란을 일으키고 한 달도 안되어 중국에는 다른 먹거리 공포논란이 일어났다. “카드뮴 쌀”이라고 불리는 오염된 쌀이 유통된 것이다. 이 쌀은 중금속이 들어있어 내부 장기에 해로운 영향을 미치고 암을 유발할 수 있다.

끊이지 않는 먹거리 논란은 내부적으로 식품 안전규정에 대한 관심을 끌고 있다.
