On March 30, around 1,400 visitors and staff were requested to leave the Eiffel Tower in Paris shortly after an anonymous bomb threat call. The call was received around 7 p.m. local time and warned that a bomb placed around the tower would explode at 9:30 p.m. Security guards were also instructed to leave the tower, which is an unusual order under an emergency. The tower was evacuated at 7:30 p.m.

The tower did not explode and sniffer dogs were used to search for any bombs but found none.

This is not the first time that the Eiffel Tower was evacuated due to a bomb threat. A similar call was received last year and two calls in 2011.

In recent years, national security has become a primary concern in France. France is playing a central role in a military campaign against terrorism and Al-Qaeda, placing France among Al-Qaeda’s targets of threat.

The Eiffel Tower is France’s landmark located in Paris. It is 324 meters tall and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world.

3월 30일 에펠탑 폭파 협박전화로 에펠탑 방문객과 직원 천4백여 명이 긴급대피했다. 전화는 현지 시간 저녁 7시에 걸려왔으며 9시 반에 에펠탑이 폭파한다고 협박했다. 경비원도 대피시켰는데 긴급상황에서 이례적이지 않은 일이다. 이들은 7시 30분경 모두 대피했었다.

그러나 에펠탑은 폭파하지 않았으며 탐지견을 동원하여 에펠탑을 수색하였으나 폭발물은 발견되지 않았다. 에펠탑 폭파 협박 전화는 이번이 처음이 아니다. 작년에 비슷한 전화가 걸려왔으며 2011년에는 협박 전화 2건이 있었다.

최근 프랑스에서 국가 안보에 비상이 걸렸다. 알카에다와 테러리즘을 맞선 군대 캠페인을 벌이고 있어 알카에다의 협박 받고 있기 때문이다.

에펠탑은 파리에 위치한 프랑스의 랜드마크이다. 324미터이며 세계 최고 관광명소로 꼽힌다.
