The time between late January and mid February is probably one of the most entertaining and memorable moments for elementary, middle and high school students.

Whether it’s tearing school uniforms, throwing eggs or outrageously stripping schoolmates naked, the wild act has been a big part of graduation ceremonies.

Well, it now appears that a student must carefully think about his or her actions when it comes to getting involved in the tradition. Recently, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education서울특별시 교육청 ordered all elementary, middle and high schools in Seoul to educate students to stop graduation ceremonies from getting wild.

The focus behind the order is to prevent students from getting involved in abusive rituals. In an effort to cut down violence and bullying at schools, it appears that the government is trying to put heavy breaks on a repeated tradition that can easily get out of hand.

Officials from the education office announced that in coordination with the police, any improper act during graduation will be regarded as a crime and students committing such acts will be punished accordingly to the law. So, here’s the list of the so-called improper acts that is punishable by law. First, extorting money of any amount from fellow classmates or students will be classified as blackmail. Second, sprinkling flour or throwing eggs will be considered as physical assault. And finally, stripping school uniforms or taking obscene photos involving nudity will be punished as a sexual crime. By now, all schools in Seoul have most likely sent out text messages to parents, requesting them to take their roles in ceremonies and prohibit students from participating in unruly behaviors.

In the last few weeks, countless teachers, police officers, and in some cases, hired private guards, have patrolled surrounding areas of schools celebrating graduation. To match the toughened stance from the government, students, teachers and parents have devised graduation ceremony programs that are still festive but trouble free. So far, no ugly scene has been reported and the plans of the education office have gone accordingly.

Dull and boring may be the case. However, students must acknowledge the fact that acts of wildness have never stopped with sprinkling four. The truth of the matter is such act was done a decade ago. In recent years, students have gone too far. It was only last year when a dozen photos students stripping others’ school uniforms and exposing underwear were spread online. There was also a case where a female student was tied to a tree with her mouth covered by duct tape.

최근, 서울특별시 교육청은 모든 서울의 초등학교, 중학교, 고등학교의 졸업식에서 난폭한 행동을 하지 못하도록 지시했다.

이러한 지시의 초점은 학생들이 폭력적인 의식에 참여하지 못하도록 예방하는 것이다.
학교에서의 폭력과 따돌림을 근절하려는 노력으로, 정부는 감당할 수 없이 반복되는 전통을 저지를 하려고 노력하는 듯 보인다.

교육부의 관계자는 경찰과의 협력으로 졸업식 동안의 어떠한 부적절한 행동도 범죄로 간주될 것이며 이러한 행동을 저지르는 학생들은 법에 따라서 처벌받을 것이라고 발표했다.그래서, 법으로 처벌받게 되는 소위 부적절한 행동의 리스트가 여기 있다.

첫 번째로, 반 친구나 학생들로부터 어떠한 양의 돈이라도 갈취하는 것은 협박으로 분류된다.

두 번째로, 밀가루를 뿌리거나 계란을 던지는 것은 신체적 공격으로 간주된다. 그리고 마지막으로, 교복을 벗기거나 나체에 관련된 외설적인 사진을 찍는 것은 성범죄로 처벌받을 것이다.

지금까지, 서울의 모든 학교는 대부분, 부모에게 문자를 보내거나, 부모들에게 졸업식에서 제 역할을 하라고 요구하거나 학생들이 제멋대로 구는 행동을 금지하거나 해왔다.

지난 몇 주간, 많은 교사들과 경찰관, 그리고 어떤 경우에는 고용된 사설 경호원이 학교들의 졸업식 근처를 순찰했다.

정부의 강화된 입장을 맞추기 위해, 학생, 교사, 그리고 부모들은 축제스럽지만 말썽이 없는 졸업식 프로그램을 마련했다.지금까지, 그렇게 심한 사건은 보고되지 않았으며, 그리하여 교육부의 계획도 순조롭다.

재미없고 따분하다는 것이 문제라면 문제가 될 수 있다. 하지만, 학생들은 난폭한 행동은 절대 밀가루를 뿌리는 것으로는 멈출 수 없는 사실을 인정해야만 한다.

여학생들은 입이 강력 접착테이프로 봉해진 채 나무에 붙여있는 경우도 있었다.
