The Icheon Festival will be held from September 24th to October 23rd for 30 days. The Gyeonggi International Ceramics Biennale 2011 will be held from September 24th to November 22nd. For 10 days, a workshop will be held. Here, we can meet the world’s most famous pottery masters and see their work. Spectators can directly see the process of making ceramics and they can see how the masters’ motions are very detailed. Diverse and colorful ceramics can also be seen at the festival.

The Icheon Festival has a long history. Its origins go back to the 1970s. The first ceramic festival was held in 1987, but it had a very small scale of display and style for sale. For the first eight festivals, because of the people’s passive participation and a lack of funding, it was only appreciated locally. However, in its ninth year, it encountered a big change. The festival became one of the biggest and most popular events in Korea due to interest by foreign tourists. This year, the theme of the festival is “journeying from fire.” Interestingly, the actual ticket is a small ceramic piece so participants can get a special souvenir. Every year, more than two million foreigners participate in this festival. They can do a lot of activities: look at exhibits, buy unique items, and watch performances.

Children and adults can enjoy ceramic classes or private ceramic rooms which were designed for them to make their own pottery.

On Saturdays, visitors can also see the process of firing pottery. They can also enjoy some traditional Korean games or eat Korean food. There are many ceramic masters who are glad to talk to those who have questions.

The best masterpieces are put on display by the masters. Pots and other works that are made of verdant celadon, white porcelain, and plain grayish-blue-powdered celadon can be seen. There are so many beautiful pieces that can be purchased, and many souvenirs are reasonably priced.

Aymom Gouda, a 45-year-old Egyptian, saw the importance of the Icheon Festival and claimed he got a good chance to learn about Korean ceramics in detail. Adrian Guerrero, a pottery master from Mexico, had a workshop at the festival.

He went to a university in Sweden and worked for 22 years making ceramics.

Guerrero emphasizes how Korean ceramics are perfect. His work contains a lot of detail and the festival made an obvious impression on him. Jeong Uei-chang, a Korean craftsman with 20 years of experience, follows the epoch of the three Kingdoms traditional style of ceramics. He works to inherit the traditional heritage of Korean pottery.

이천 도자기 축제

이천축제가 9월 24일부터 10월 23일 30일 간 열릴 것이다. 2011년 경기 세계 도자기 비엔날레가 9월 24일부터 11월 22일까지 개최될 예정이다. 10일간, 연수회는 개최될 예정이다.
