Ryu Hyun-jin is known for his pitching skills but recently he surprised fans when he batted for the Los Angeles Dodgers in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

On April 13, the left-handed pitcher stepped up to the plate for the first time in his Major League career and wowed his fans. Ryu scored three runs during the game and led his team to a 7-5 win against the Diamondbacks.

The unexpected talent from Ryu surprised everyone from the TV broadcasters covering the game to Ryu, himself. “I was most surprised by my hitting today,” recalled Ryu.
 
Ryu explained that the last time he had stood on the plate was in high school because in Korea, pitchers do not bat. The TV broadcasters even gave the young Korean athlete a new nickname, ‘Babe Ryuth.’ Babe Ruth was a very famous baseball player who hit 714 homeruns.

Ryu joined the Dodgers last year on a USD 36 million contract.

현지 방송진행자들은 류현진 선수에게 새로운 별명까지 지어줬다. 바로 714개의 홈런을 친 전설의 야구 선수 베이브 루스의 이름을 딴 ‘베이브 류스’ 이다.

류현진 선수는 작년 말에 다저스와 3600만 달러 계약을 맺었다.
