A couple of years ago, computerized glasses and watches only existed in science-fiction movies. In the world of computer technology, people call them wearable computers. Now they are saying that we will be wearing them pretty soon.

Wearable computers, or just wearables for short, are miniature electronic devices that are worn on the human body. They are the next wave of technology. Consumers will be able to experience more wearables over the coming years, mostly for health and fitness, navigation, social networking, and gaming purposes. Wearables will positively change our lives in many ways, big and small.

According to the Guardian, wearable computers suddenly came into the spotlight in April 2012 with the announcement of the Google Glass. The idea is simple: you wear a pair of glasses; there is an earpiece with a built-in microphone. When something happens in your Internet life, a message appears on the glasses.

Such technologies bring us a step closer to making what we have seen in science-fiction films a reality.

몇 년 전만 해도 컴퓨터화 된 안경 도는 시계는 공상과학 영화에서만 존재했다. 컴퓨터 기술의 세계에서는 그것을 웨어러블(착용 가능한) 컴퓨터라고 부르고 우리도 곧 그것을 입어 볼 수 있게 될 거라고 한다.

웨어러블 컴퓨터는 인간의 몸에 입힐 수 있는 소형 전자 기구이며 차세대 유력 기술이다. 소비자들은 앞으로 더 많은 웨어러블 컴퓨터를 만나보게 될 것이며 이러한 컴퓨터의 용도는 주로 건강, 신체단련, 내비게이션, 소셜 네트워킹 그리고 게임이 될 것이다. 웨어러블 컴퓨터는 우리들의 삶에 크고 작은 변화를 가져올 것이다.

영국의 일간신문 가디언에 의하면 웨어러블 컴퓨터는 2012년 4월 구글안경 발표와 함께 갑작스레 세상의 주목을 받게 됐다. 아이디어는 간단하다: 한 쌍의 안경을 쓴다. 거기에는 마이크가 내장된 이어폰이 있다. 인터넷 공간에서 어떤 일이 생기면 해당 안경 앞에 메시지가 뜬다.

이런 기술은 우리가 공상과학 영화에서만 보아 왔던 일들이 현실 속에서 구현될 수 있도록 해준다.
