In the recent months, The Teen Times and The Kids Times have been hosting a series of Presentation Competitions to spread its importance and provide young minds with an essential skills. Although the field is generally new and widely unknown in our nation, countless students have signed up for an opportunity to challenge themselves.

Unexpected settings, pressures provided by peers and hosts, a winding down time clock, and controversial topics are just the only few issues a competitor must deal with at every competition. The most recent competition held last week at Hi Seoul Youth Hostel was once again intense. Even with the torrential rainfall blocking out just about every local transportation route, 40 teenagers from across the country arrived to compete and explore their possibilities.

Assigned with a topic, rules and guidelines, students received the task to demonstrate to the crowd their ability to deliver and convince. Panic arrived for some participants and there were students who didn’t quite know how to deal with rebutting questions thrown by the host. For those who had repetitively participated in past competitions, they showed calmness and executed the task within a given time. On both angles, the successful students and the ones who experienced butterflies in their stomachs gave it their all to stand tall on stage.

The importance of making a good presentation is evident in today’s world. I defines your character as a mature professional. All future participants must keep in mind that anyone who understands the basics of presentation skills and knows how to put it into proper application is a good indication of a potential asset to any organization whether in school or a real life work setting. Although it may appear as one of the most challenging or perhaps daunting tasks of life, you only need to acquire the basics of it to start feeling confident and positive. Surprisingly, after attending the stage again and again you will notice your speech reaching the crowd more clearly and effectively. Are you up for the challenge?

비록 프레젠테이션이라는 분야가 우리나라에서는 잘 알려져 있지 않지만, 수 많은 학생들이 그들 자신을 도전해보기 위해 프레젠테이션 대회에 신청을 했다. 동료들과 사회자에 의한 예상치 못한 설정들과 압력, 계속 가는 시간, 그리고 논쟁의 여지가 많은 주제들은 경쟁자들이 매 대회 때 마다 해결해야 했던 난제들이다.

지난 주 하이 서울 유스 호스텔에서 열린 가장 최근의 대회는 또 한번 치열했다. 모든 교통로를 막아 버린 폭우 속에서도, 전국의 40명의 학생들이 대회에 참여해 그들의 가능성을 시험하기 위해 도착했다.

주제, 규칙, 그리고 지침을 안내 받은 학생들은 관중들에게 그들의 능력을 알리고 확신시켜야 하는 임무를 부여 받았다. 어떤 참가자들은 당황했으며, 사회자가 던진 질문에 어떻게 반박할지 모르는 학생들도 있었다. 대회에 여러 번 참여한 학생들은 침착했으며 주어진 시간 안에 임무를 잘 완수했다. 성공적으로 해 낸 학생들이나 초조함을 경험 한 학생들 모두 무대에서 당당해 보이기 위해 최선을 다했다.

이 시대에 프레젠테이션을 잘 하는 것은 확실히 중요하다. 당신은 성숙한 전문가이다. 나중에 참가할 모든 학생들은 프레젠테이션의 기본을 알고 그것을 어떻게 적용하는지 아는 사람이면 누구나 학교에서건 직장에서건 어느 조직에서 중요한 자산이 될 것이라는 것을 명심해야 한다.

비록 프레젠테이션이 가장 도전적이고 힘든 일로 보일지라도, 프레젠테이션의 기본만 익히면 당신은 자신감 있고 긍정적인 기분을 느낄 것이다. 놀랍게도, 자꾸 무대에 오르면 오를수록 당신은 당신의 연설이 청중에게 좀 더 분명하고 효과적으로 전달된다는 것을 알 수 있을 것이다.
