Resilient” is one word that describes the characteristics of our country. Even though Korea has faced various kinds of hardships, such as war, economic crises, and the continued estrangement with North Korea, we achieved economic success and reached the peak of economic development. In my opinion, Korean education makes it possible for our country to develop all aspects of our society, including economics, culture, and politics.

Currently, the demand for education is growing, and a number of new educational systems are being introduced. Following this current trend, our fixed idea of education has also changed, and the importance of self-discovery and self-motivation has been emphasized. My school, Handong International School, mostly focuses on the student’s initiative to learn and guarantees freedom of choice. In order to achieve this goal, students have the opportunity to choose a variety of extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, and computer programming. Most students who attend our school are from different parts of the world. Therefore, we constantly face cultural differences and conflicts. However, students participate in special events so that they are able to share and experience foreign cultures. Through these kinds of activities, students also learn the importance of cooperation. While ordinary public schools stress the importance of academic performance, our school values moral ethics, Christianity, and freedom.

 

 

Some people may be concerned that extracurricular activities are an academic distraction. However, students learn more important values, such as responsibility and leadership; which are closely related to real-world work ethics. While we are involved in school events such as sports day, a school banquet, or camping trip, students become more mature in all aspects of their lives. Grades improve naturally as we learn time management skills, responsibility, and leadership. In addition, students are exposed to different types of social interactions through these sorts of school events. Students are also able to improve their English-speaking ability; foreign teachers are closely involved in all school activities, and students need to communicate and share ideas with them. In my case, for example, I participated in two sports teams, a band, and a Model United Nations club. My parents were worried about my grades because of my busy schedule. But as a matter of fact, I learned how to manage my time wisely by participating in these activities, and in the end, I received the highest grades that I ever had.

In addition, our school life is really enjoyable. Seniors, juniors, and sophomores maintain and foster close relationships without any barriers among them. This way, freshmen learn how to cope with school life while seniors have the chance to practice leadership and gain responsibility.
Handong International School is a place where students gain valuable life experience. Also, I have come to realize what true passion is and have learned to take responsibility for my choices. These invaluable lessons cannot be learned from books, and students can take them wherever they go later on in life. I feel a strong sense of belonging at HIS, and I thank God that I am a student here. The lessons to be learned here, which go far beyond mere academics, are a worthwhile focus for my youth and passion.

세계적 지도자를 위한 한동 국제 학교

“회복력 있는”은 우리 나라의 특징을 서술하는 단어이다. 비록 한국이 경제적 위기와 북한과의 계속되는 괴리와 같은 다양한 종류의 어려움들에 직면했지만, 우리는 경제적 성공을 이루었고 경제적 발달의 절정에 도달했다. 개인적으로, 한국 교육은 경제, 문화, 그리고 정치를 포함하여, 우리 사회의 모든 양상을 발전하는 것을 가능하게 했다.

현재, 교육에 대한 요구는 증가하고 있고 많은 새로운 교육 시스템들이 도입되고 있다. 현재 경향에 따르면, 우리의 교육에 대한 고정된 생각 또한 바뀌고 자아 발견과 자기 동기 부여의 중요성이 강조되어 왔다. 우리 학교, 한동 국제 학교는 대개 학생들의 결단력을 배우게 끔 하는 데 집중하고 선택의 자유를 보장한다. 이 목적을 달성하기 위해, 학생들은 운동, 음악 그리고 컴퓨터 프로그래밍과 같은 다양한 과외 활동을 선택할 기회가 있다.

우리 학교를 다니는 대부분의 학생들은 세계의 다양한 지역에서 온다. 따라서, 우리는 끊임없이 문화적 차이와 갈등에 직면한다. 하지만, 학생들은 특별한 이벤트에 참여하는데 그들은 외국 문화를 공유하고 경험할 수 있다. 이러한 종류의 활동들을 통해, 학생들은 또한 협력의 중요성을 배운다. 보통의 공립 학교들이 학업 성적의 중요성을 강조하는 반면, 우리 학교는 도덕 윤리, 기독교 그리고 자유에 가치를 둔다.

어떤 사람들은 과외 활동이 학업적 오락이라고 우려할지도 모른다. 하지만, 학생들은 책임감 그리고 리더십과 같은 현실 세계의 근면에 밀접하게 관련된 좀 더 중요한 가치들을 배운다. 우리는 운동회, 학교 연회 혹은 캠핑과 같은 학교 행사에 참여하는 동안, 학생들은 삶의 모든 면에 좀 더 성숙하게 된다.

우리가 시간 관리 능력, 책임감 그리고 리더십을 배우면서 성적은 자연스럽게 향상된다. 게다가, 학생들은 이러한 종류의 학교 행사들을 통해 다양한 유형의 사회적 상호작용에 노출된다. 학생들은 또한 영어 말하기 능력을 향상시킬 수 있다; 원어민 선생님들은 모든 학교 활동에 밀접하게 참여하고 학생들은 그들과 대화를 하고 생각을 공유할 필요가 있다.

예를 들면, 내 경우, 나는 2개의 스포츠 팀 즉 밴드와 모의유엔 동아리에 참여했다. 우리 부모님은 내 바쁜 스케줄 때문에 성적을 우려하신다. 하지만 사실, 나는 이러한 활동에 참여함으로써 현명하게 내 시간을 관리하는 방법을 배웠고 결국 나는 이전보다 가장 높은 성적을 받았다.

게다가, 학교 생활은 정말 즐겁다. 3학년, 1, 2, 3학년들은 그들 사이에 어떤 장벽도 없이 가까운 관계를 유지하고 발전시킨다. 이처럼, 선배들이 리더십을 생활화하고 책임감을 키우는 기회를 갖는다면, 신입생들은 학교 생활에 대응하는 방법을 배운다.
한동 국제 학교는 학생들이 귀중한 삶의 경험을 얻는 장소이다.

또한, 나는 진정한 열정이 무엇인지를 깨닫게 되고 내 선택에 책임을 지는 것을 배운다. 이러한 귀중한 교훈들은 책으로부터 배울 수 없고 학생들은 그들이 후에 어느 곳에서 살든 그것들을 적용할 수 있다. 나는 한동 국제 학교에 강한 소속감을 느끼고 내가 여기 학생이라는 것에 하느님께 감사를 드린다. 단순히 학업을 넘어 이 곳에서 배운 교훈들은 내 젊음과 열정에 가치가 있으리라 본다.
