Usher, Mariah Carey and Nelly Furtado have decided to turn their back on the Gadaffi family of Libya, and donate their funds back to society. They no longer want any connection with the Libyan dictator.

A list of Hollywood’s top A class entertainers that performed at concerts and events connected to the Libyan dictator, Muammar Gadffi, are donating their top of the line pay checks back to society. Not a single dime hidden, the singers have uniformly decided to give away the fees they had received.

Usher announced recently that he had participated at the same 2009 New Year’s Eve Party that Beyonce Knowles played on the Caribbean Island of St. Barts. Beyonce announced that she had given her fees from that event to Haiti relief fund effort last year. Usher said he would be giving his fees away as well.

“I must admit. I am extremely and sincerely troubled to learn about the circumstances surrounding the Nikki Beach St. Barts event that took place on New Year’s Eve 2009,” Usher said in an interview with ABC News. “I will be donating all of my personal proceeds from that event to various human rights organizations.”

The issue is the party was organized and thrown by Muatassim Gaddafi. The New Year’s Eve Party that Usher and Beyonce played was connected to the dictator’s son. Muatassim acts as his father’s national security adviser. The New York Times reported that Beyonce learned of this connection in 2010 only a few months after having played the show and that upon discovering the connection, she donated the money to the Clinton-Bush Haiti relief fund.

Nelly Furtado spoke to her two million followers on Twitter at the end of February that she was going to “donate” the one million dollar fee that she had received for playing a brief show at an Italian hotel for the Gadaffi in 2007. “In 2007, I received 1 million dollars from the Qaddafi clan to perform for 45 minutes to his guests at a hotel in Italy,” Furtado tweeted on Feb. 28. “I am going to donate all of that money back to society.”

Mariah Carey has also played for the Libyan dictator’s family and a blogger on Carey’s personal website announced Carey was “not happy” with having played for the Gadaffi family and not been aware of the connections. Mariah has officially announced she is going to take the proceeds from a song called Save the Day on her next (upcoming) album and donate all of those funds generated to “human rights issues.”

Carey herself wrote on her website: “I was naive and unaware of whom I was booked to perform for. I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess. Going forward, this is a lesson for all artists to learn from. We need to be more aware and take more responsibility regardless of who books our shows. Ultimately we as artists are to be held accountable.”
