Finally, no more snow to bother with. Winter has ended and the new ray of warm light is shining down on us to hint that spring has arrived. While many of us are packing away the winter coats, Korean designers were busy at the recent Seoul Fashion Week festival to forecast the hot items for the coming fall and winter.

The nation’s biggest fashion event was held at the Seoul Trade Exhibition Center서울 무역전시장  in southern Seoul. According to the organizers of the event, the recent show was the largest in history. Noticeably there were bigger crowds.

Approximately 74,000 people were in attendance. When taking into account that countless people were using iPhones to capture the images from the show, one can imagine the number of files uploaded on YouTube by now. If you want a little taste of what the show was like, plenty of information and videos are now available.

So, what’s in for men’s wear collections in the upcoming fall and winter? Military and bohemian looks are in with a mixture of vintage British and traditional European styles. Famous Korean designers such as Kang Dong-jun, Kim Seo-ryong and Lee Ju-young all made presentations inspired by masculine looks and sharply tailored suits.

The audience was continuously surprised by the sophisticated styles and ideas from the nation’s top designers. One common similarity amongst the designers was that each presentation included classic suits and jackets resembling traditional British designs.



The most anticipated presentation was the women’s wear collections. Selected as the best designer by the Korean Culture Contents agency, Lee Doii who had worked for luxury brands in Paris opened the show with a mysterious veil-covered woman wearing a lace bodysuit. Her collection of dresses and gowns were characterized by luxurious prints and fabrics.

On the contrast, other female designers incorporated elements of winter sports wear into their designs. They are a sensible collection of stylish and functional garments. Some showed their expertise in creating utterly feminine and sexy designs, which are often worn by celebrities. Many garments received their inspirations from the cool and jazzy mood of the U.S. in the 1940s.

Two new trends for the upcoming fall and winter are minimalism and eco-fashion. Tones of grays, khakis and browns were the mainstream during the venue. Don’t be surprised if you see futuristic stripes and silhouettes worn by fashion leaders when the summer ends.

탑 패션 디자이너들이 한자리에 모이다

우리나라의 가장 큰 패션 행사는 강남 서울 무역전시장에서 열렸다. 행사 주최자들에 따르면, 최근의 쇼는 역사상 가장 큰 것이었다. 그곳에는 현저히 많은 군중이 있었다.

대략 7만 4천명이 참석했다. 수 많은 사람들이 쇼의 이미지를 찍기 위해 아이폰을 사용했던 것을 고려하면, YouTube에 올라온 파일들의 수를 상상할 수 있을 것이다.

다가올 가을 겨울의 남성 컬렉션은 무엇인가?
빈티지 영국 스타일과 전통 유럽스타일과 혼합된 밀리터리와 보헤미안 스타일이 있다.
강동준, 김서령 그리고 이주영과 같은 유명한 한국 디자이너들은 모두 남성 옷과 날카로운 테일러드 수트에 감명받아 패션쇼를 했다. 관중들은 우리나라 탑 디자이너들의 정교한 스타일과 아이디어에 끊임 없이 놀랐다. 디자이너들 사이의 공통된 유사점은 각각의 쇼는 전통 영국 디자인을 닮은 클래식 수트와 자켓을 포함시켰다는 점이다.

가장 기대된 공연은 여성 컬렉션 이었다. 한국문화콘텐츠 진흥원에 의해 베스트 디자이너로 선정되었고, 파리에서 명품브랜드에서 근무한 이도이는 레이스 수트를 입고 있는 미스터리한 베일에 가려진 여성으로 쇼를 시작했다. 그녀의 드레스와 가운의 컬렉션은 화려한 프린트와 천 들로 특징지어졌다.

반면, 다른 여성 디자이너들은 디자인에 겨울 스포츠 웨어의 요소를 가미했다.
그것들은 스타일리시하고 기능적인 의복의 감각적인 컬렉션이었다. 몇몇은 종종 유명인사들이 입는 아주 여성적이고 섹시한 디자인을 창조하는데 전문기술을 보여주었다. 많은 옷들은 1940년대 미국의 멋진 재즈 무드에서 영감을 받았다.

다가 올 가을과 겨울의 새로운 트랜드는 미니멀리즘(많은 장식을 피하고 최소한으로 표현하는 것)과 환경 친화적 패션이다. 회색과 카키 그리고 갈색은 패션쇼의 주류를 이루었다. 여름이 끝났을 때, 패션 리더들이 미래지향적 줄무늬와 실루엣을 입고 나와도 놀라지 마라.
