[한글 news] 지난 6일 경기도 과천 서울대공원에서 달아난 여섯 살짜리 수컷 말레이 곰 ‘꼬마’를 잡기 위해 포획(捕獲·짐승이나 물고기를 잡음)틀이 설치됐다. 사흘째 곰을 추적하고 있지만 별다른 성과를 거두지 못해 포획 방법을 바꾸기로 한 것. 서울대공원은 8일 “수색만으론 발 빠른 ‘꼬마’를 잡기 어렵다”며 “멸종위기종복원센터 지리산곰복원팀의 도움을 받아 ‘꼬마’가 도망간 청계산 일대에 포획틀을 설치하는 유인책으로 작전을 변경했다”고 밝혔다.

드럼통 2개를 붙여놓은 모양의 이 포획틀 안엔 ‘꼬마’가 좋아하는 포도주, 꿀, 정어리 등을 넣어뒀다. 곰이 먹이를 먹으러 안으로 들어가면 센서가 작동해 문이 자동으로 닫히는 구조다. 이와 함께 포획틀이 설치된 지점 중간마다 꿀과 포도주를 담을 냄비를 설치해 불을 때기로 했다. 음식이 끓으면서 나는 냄새로 ‘꼬마’를 포획틀까지 유인하기 위해서다.

강형욱 서울대공원 홍보팀장은 “지난해 강원도 화천에서 탈출한 곰을 잡을 때 사용했던 포획틀과 안전 올무를 설치 중”이라며 “이 장비를 활용하면 빠른 시일 안에 곰을 반드시 포획할 수 있을 것으로 예상한다”고 말했다. 현재 ‘꼬마’는 청계산의 녹향원 주변 계곡에 숨어 있을 것으로 추정된다. 곰이 잡힐 때까지 청계산에 오르는 건 전면 통제된다.

[영어 news] A six-year-old Malaysian sun bear escaped from the Seoul Zoo. The bear, named Kko-ma, escaped from its cage on Monday. The animal is believed to be near Mt. Cheonggye where zoo officials are currently conducting a search to find the escaped animal. Up until now, they have had no such luck in locating the bear.

On the 8th of December, officials involved in the search decided to change their search method. The new strategy involves trying to lure the bear from the mountains where it’s suspected to be by using large traps containing food and other items like wine, honey and sardines that Kko-ma is known to like.

To help attract Kko-ma, each trap is equipped with sensors on the opening which will close once the bear has entered in search of food. Additionally, between each trap, officials are planning on heating pots filled with wine and honey in hopes of attracting the bear as quickly as possible.

Kang Hyeong-wook, the PR manager of Seoul zoo commented, “Last year, these traps were used in several cases in Gangwon-do. We believe that they will work here and that the bear will be captured soon.”


Until the bear has been captured, entrance to the mountain has been restricted.
