Ted and Jay loved to ride their bikes to town. Jay’s dad, Bill, rode on a big, tall ten speed bike. Ted and Jay each liked to ride their dirt bikes.

The day was warm and sunny as they started up the road. Both Ted and Jay were wearing their helmets. They took turns riding fast and then skidding their tires.

The boys passed a green house on the road that never looked like anybody was home. As they passed the house, they could see a little boy riding his bike in the driveway. Ted noticed that the boy looked up and saw them passing by. “Maybe that boy would like to come on a ride with us?”said Bill.

The boys thought it over. But they decided to keep riding towards town on their own.

When they reached Main Street, Bill told the boys it was time to get off their bikes and walk them along the road. “It isn’t polite to ride your bike on the sidewalk.”he said.

Pretty soon they were at the hardware store.

“I have to go inside here for a minute. Do you guys want to come in or wait?”said Bill. The boys decided to go inside. Mr. Grant was the owner. He smiled at Ted and Jay. “Are you guys helping out today?”Ted explained that his dad always had to get something at the hard ware store. Bill bought some nails and a new hand saw from Mr. Grant while the boys explored.

The boys spotted an ice cream store across the street. It was called Scoopy Doo’s.

“Can we please have some ice cream, Dad? Please~”asked Jay. Bill was not sure.

The boys had not eaten their lunch yet. But he finally decided that it would be okay. Jay got chocolate soft serve ice cream. Ted wanted mint chip. Together, they sat under a mulberry tree and ate the ice cream. Finally, it was time to ride their bikes home.

As Ted and Jay rode down the street, they realized they were almost at the green house again.

“Are you guys going to ask that other little boy if he’d like to take a ride?”said Bill. Ted and Jay thought about it. They weren’t sure.

“I’ll bet if you asked him it might really make his day.”said Bill. As they reached the green house, sure enough, the little boy was there in his driveway.

Ted stopped and got off his bike. He walked up to the little boy and asked,“ Would you like to take a ride with us to the end of the street?

We are riding with an adult, Jay’s dad.” The little boy’s father was in the garage. He walked out.

“That would be fine.”he said, waving to Jay’s dad, Bill.

“We’re just going to the end and back.”said Bill.

So the boys rode with the little boy from the green house. They both noticed that he had a great big smile on his face. And they both felt proud.
