The Emergence of the New King

2011/01/18 17:57:19

Twitter and Facebook respectively enjoyed explosive popularity in the nation over the past year thanks to the social networking boom on the Internet and mobile phones. Industry observers say the difference in their operating systems may have led to the difference in how strongly they can keep visitors connected and make them come back.

While Twitter adopted a simple yet weak networking platform which facilitates one-way communication, Facebook allows a more interactive one where anyone can create a large network of friends.

Because Twitter has a function to form itself as a media outlet to distribute a variety of posts from users, it brought about dramatic enthusiasm. Sadly, it also led to its sudden cooling down due to its limitations as a social networking service. As Chris Hughes, the co-founder of Facebook has said, the big F allows much easier communication with people on the Web.

While Twitter had been enormously successful and strategically the right choice for leaders and celebrities, it wasn’t the right tool for connecting people. Twitter wasn’t so much about collecting friends and creating a network; it was more about people following a certain individual or group due to an interest or purpose. In the long run Facebook was the right choice for providing a bridge between people.
