The creation of BlueOn was possible because Hyundai had teamed up with 44 local companies, including 34 small and medium enterprises. It simply means the new car has set a new example of close cooperation between large and small businesses. To mass produce the new model Hyundai announced it will forge closer partnerships with subcontractors based on a win-win strategy.
The BlueOn was also a brilliant collaboration of corporation and government. The project which cost approximately 40-billion-won was a tight collaboration between the government, research institutes and businesses. It has set a great example and is pivotal to fueling the nation’s future growth for green engines. In the past individual companies couldn’t dream of developing such green technology because the state didn’t support the cooperation for research and development.
So, here are the specifications for the green engine: the motor vehicle is powered by an electric motor and lithium-ion polymer batteries which can reach as fast as 130km per hour and run for up to 140km on a single charge. Hyundai announced it is planning to have electric cars replace 10 percent of small sedans in the local market in four years. It plans to replace 20 percent of all passenger vehicles by 2020.
This is a new beginning for the nation’s motor industry. For the nation to be victorious in the global market the nation’s motor giants and small domestic firms must overcome various obstacles. There is of course the high price tag being an issue, and the range of driving distance on a single charge. And we can’t forget that there are no recharging stations.
