The Meaning of Uniforms (유니폼의 의미)

Pros

1st Statement:
Uniforms can help people to be identified. If a police man was giving a parking ticket to a person, they would need something to prove that they are a police officer and have the authority. It also helps army/navy troops to recognize each other. It can also help team or company members recognize one another.

2nd Statement:
Uniforms can help to advertise companies such as bakeries, shops, markets and much, much more. Uniforms offer protection and comfort in the workplace, visibility (which is important for safety) and make members of staff identifiable. A well made uniform tailored to the job makes the job easier to perform.

3rd Statement:
Activities that don’t require a uniform can stretch the definition of an ‘occupation’ a little. While being a mother is hard work, it isn’t actually registered as a career and wouldn’t be treated as such by the rules. Self-employed people also wouldn’t follow the same rules. This is part of the appeal of being self-employed. Wearing a uniform proves you are employed in a position.

Cons

1st Statement:
Using a uniform to assume someone’s occupation creates opportunities for deceiving people. It is important to rely on valid identification rather than uniforms, which can be replicated easily. There are enough avenues for advertisement without needing a uniform for such purposes. For the majority of the time employees will wear their uniform at work and therefore the only target audience will be individuals who are already customers of the company.

2nd Statement:
Some occupations do not require a uniform as it is unnecessary and time wasting, such as mothers who don’t need a uniform for looking after children and don’t need everyone to know who they are and what they do; imagine, if every time a mother was doing her job she had to wear a uniform. Also, people who work from home would be wearing a uniform that hardly anyone would see.

3rd Statement:
There is a reason why uniforms exist. It is of course to state a person’s identity and a specific belonging. However, it is in essence a statement of authority. Police officers or an airplane pilots wear a specific uniform which allows just about anyone to know who they are and what they do. If any job or title is given a uniform, it would completely abolish the very essence of wearing a uniform. A uniform impresses people and is seen as a symbol of authority. If any job whatsoever had a uniform, it wouldn’t be something of status any more.
